So sorry back to our Airlie Beach holiday! Here’s part 2!
After the engines broke on the yacht we were asked to switch boats onto the big purple Camira! Seemingly innocent right? NOT! The waves were huge and we were in a small speed boat being transfered, I almost fell over the side when I tried to hop in and a wave happened to come at the same time and I lost my footing and fell into the boat. Soooo smooth!
Once we made our way onto Camira I was heaps happier! We were greeted by the new staff and quickly realized that this was CLEARLY the boat we were meant to be on! It was full of young tourists (as opposed to families and elderly).
The Camira was awesome! Jill and I hung out on the “trampoline” section, soaked up the sun and enjoyed the free snacks! Once we passed a million little islands they took us to one of the beaches past Paradise cove I think it was Whitehaven beach? I dunno… after awhile all this heavenly scenery on our Airlie Beach holiday it all started to look the same… white sands, lush tropical trees and turquoise waters.
Once the boat stopped they let us know that for our snorkel we had to make sure we were in wet suits because it was jellyfish season and they were out in full force and there was an especially nasty little one called the Irukandji Jellyfish. Blahhhh! Much like the Box Jellyfish these are deadly and tiny, and see through. Neat. Makes a person REALLY wanna snorkel! I kept thinking what if it gets under my nails… ya, I’m that much of a dork.
The funny thing is that they didn’t tell us that there were other jellyfish out there that are completely harmless that are in the water as well, so while we were snorkeling I was screaming underwater like a sissy and trying to splash away the jellyfish!
But the coolest part of my Airlie Beach holiday was being so close to the coral and watching so many different coloured fish swim by, and I discovered if I was motionless the fish would come right up to swim with me, or they’d just swim right up to my face and stare. We’d make fish lips at each other, the ocean would sway to and fro.. it was bliss, except for when a damn jellyfish would float up and ruin the moment! All in all though I loved every minute of snorkeling on my Airlie Beach holiday…
The only thing I was sad about was that I didn’t see Nemo! Not that time anyways… it was funny too because while I was down there I couldn’t get the “Under the Sea” song outta my head… “the seaweed is always greener in somebody elses’ lake, you dream about going up there, but dat is a big mistake…”
After our snorkel, the Camira took us onto the Whitehaven beach for fun in the sun and some beach sports… or rather I should say “them”. Jill and I had been traveling/on so much that we decided against the sports and stayed on the boat and tanned/passed out for a nap. It was SO peaceful and SO serene that we couldn’t give up the opportunity for some time to ourselves…. after all we were on A BOAT!
After everyone came back from “fun time” we had an amazing BBQ with fresh caught fish, chicken, sausages, salads, prawns, fruits, veggies … etc. It was SO delish! Then we sailed off into the sunset back to the Abel Point Marina. I have to say the boat cruise on our Airlie Beach holiday was one of my FAVORITE things that we did on our road trip! I highly recommend it, and if you’re in your 20’s definitely go on the Camira!
Special thanks again to Cruise Whitsundays for a FUNtastic day!
Hope you tune into Tuesdays Roo to see the footage!

Oh, too bad u didn’t get to see Nemo. The biggest fish I saw when snorkeling was like 4ft long and I could even touch it a few times…they just aren’t afraid of people.
Lol i hear the same is for Crocodiles….I hear they are gettin’ pretty ballsy!
