Hey guys!

Now that we’ve kicked off our official Gold Coast series it’s time for some Australia adventure travel! If you’re not too into staying at the hotel or lazing on the beach, the Gold Coast has plenty to offer for Australia adventure travel!

So far Jill and I have been jet boating in the marina, surfed with the legend himself Munga Barry, (I stood up 4 times – thank-you), we’ve been to Dream world and White water world, Mt. Tamborine Skywalk, and just completed the Extreme Green Challenge at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

If you have a need for speed Paradise Jet Boating is great fun for the entire family! Jill and I had a blast getting splashed and swirled around, and around, and around, time and time again! You may even get to see dolphins in the marina as you rock back up to port!

We surfed with the God fathers of the Ocean and world champ Munga Barry the legend himself. Munga has a unique approach to teaching how to surf. It’s not just about technique its about feeling your body in the ocean and teaching it to be one. As Munga would say himself “if you can stand on land, you can stand on the board”. I personally thought it was a bit of bull-hooey as I’d hadn’t been able to stand previously in 1770. I was a great knee board surfer, but hadn’t quite gotten full leg usage at that point. The first time I stood it was the best feeling ever not to fall off, I surfed right up to the beach, couldn’t believe I wasn’t toppled over yet. Which gave me determination to catch the next wave and the next after it. I was addicted and didn’t want to stop!
Its been my favorite Australia adventure travel moment so far!

Next we went to the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk and as for Australia adventure travel it was pretty tame and we didn’t need to summon up any extra courage for this one. It was a gorgeous 45 minute walk amongst the tree tops in the Rainforest. The best part was learning afterwards that Nick and his family actually owned that piece of land and have tried to preserve the natural balance and ecosystem. The scariest part about this walk was Jill trying to pop out and scare me but actually falling over herself on more then one occasion. Hilarious actually!

Jill and I then took a thrill pill and landed ourselves in Dreamworld/Whitewater World for an afternoon of mind scrambling good times! Our absolute FAVORITE rides were the Tower of Terror, The Claw and Wipeout! If you get a chance you HAVE to try Flowrider which is essentially like riding an actual wave! SO much fun! Oh and definitely get yourselves to the Green Room, its not just for celebs!

Finally the last of our Australia adventure travel weeks has been a trip to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary! What a great day! We arrived early to feed the wild Lorikeets breakfast, Jill literally had a minor panic attack, she got pooped on by Wilbur the Koala and almost stepped on wild iguanas a couple of times. Mother Nature was sorta slapping her in the face. It was funny for Josh and I who were innocent bystanders with uncontrollable laughter. OH! We also learned the history behind the didgeridoo and Josh got to learn how to play one. Girls aren’t allowed. Something about it being for boys only and because its phallic representation is inappropriate for women to blow… I dunno. I played sax in highschool I was willing to stick a sock in my pants and giver a go. Apparently that doesn’t qualify as adequate representation.

Anywho! For ANYONE out there looking for some amazing Australia adventure travel tours PLEASE check out Adventure Tours for a full list of all sorts of fun things to do for all thrill seeking age ranges and levels of excitement!

Hope you have a wonderooful time!

It’s that time again!

Time for Jill and I to travel around Australia! We can’t wait, we’re super pumped and we’ve had lots of suggestions from the Twitterati on where to go, what to see, and who to visit when we go travel around Australia again!

After we finish shooting our Gold Coast Feature with the Gold Coast Tourism Board we’ll be venturing back to Sydney, to showcase Bondi and the Harbour Front since we were a bit too rushed last time, and possibly Manly Beach too! But while we travel around Australia we can’t not have a sexy night out in Sydney, as everyone should!

Then we’re thinking of heading over to Canberra for some Aussie history and immerse ourselves in the capitol for an afternoon or so.

Finally we get to make our way to Melbourne!!! We’ve heard SO much about Melbourne from travelers and Aussie’s alike! I might even take to the stage for some much needed stand-up time and take the piss outta the Aussie’s for a bit. (I hear they like that). We’ve been thinking we should also check out the Zoo or go Shark diving, then check out the Australia Rules Football game, and Federation Square.

After our whirlwind tour of Melbourne we’re thinking of hitting up the Great Ocean Road and capture the changing colours of the 12 apostles during either a sunrise or sunset!

From there we’ll be stopping in Adelaide to visit our friend Kirsty who we met in Yamba and she’s going to show us how to travel around Australia in true Adelaide style!

Last but not least we’ll be hitting up Perth to see the Pinnacles and Margaret River!

We hope when we travel around Australia this time we’ll at least be able to see some dolphins, crocs and maybe even some self contained sharks or something? So far mother nature’s only revealed snakes, lizards and some kangaroo’s!

Oh! Speaking of which, we don’t really have to travel around Australia that far because tomorrow we get to cuddle with a Koala at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary!

The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place for people of all ages! We’re super excited with our itinerary tomorrow because we get to have breaky with wild Lorikeets and hand feed them. Then we get to take pics with Koala’s, learn about the Didgeridoo and how it’s played, take the Extreme Green Challenge swinging from ropes in trees! Other features there include: Totally Wild Snakes show, Crocodile Encounters, Kangaroo Feeding, sampling real bee honey from Super Bee Honey World and end the day with an invigorating show with the Aboriginal Dancers!

If you have any suggestions for our second road trip and what you think we should do to travel around Australia we’d LOVE to hear your thoughts!

After all it’s not just how we do it, it’s how you want to Roo it too!
(too much?)

We recently came across a travel blog called Ends of Earth during our web surfing, and we contacted Brook because we found his ability to travel lightly was compelling, we asked him to give us girls a few tips, and this is what he has to say:

Dear Jill and Stacey,

I’ve been thinking an awful lot lately about travel packing since I keep getting questioned on how I travel so lightly. How do we keep our luggage comfortable to handle, yet adequate for our needs? What things are “must haves” and what things are luxuries that should stay at home? These and other questions have driven me to make up a list of considerations for any of your readers planning travel, particularly longer term travel like yourselves.

-Customize your packing list to meet your needs and capabilities. Jill and Stacey, y’all are “doing the roo” in a minivan. Your transportation doubles as storage for luggage, food, equipment, etc. You’re in a situation where you can pack heavy, lug all that luggage to the van once, and not have to worry about moving it for months. I, on the other hand, am doing months of travel on trains, planes, and buses. I’m carrying my luggage around every few days at least, so having a smaller load (an ~7-8 Kg backpack) makes my life so much easier than if I were to have, say, two big suitcases.

-Buy it there! Nearly everything we use can be purchased in big cities: toiletries, socks, cigarettes, flip flops, etc. If you’re traveling for several weeks or months, pack these items lightly or not at all, then cheaply (depending on what part of the world you visit) and easily replenish them on the road.

-Fit everything into a carry-on bag. I can’t begin to estimate the number of hours of standing in line I’ve saved, all because I have a carry-on backpack. I am the first person through customs and out of the airport because I move quicker and have less bulkiness obstructing me. Additionally, carry-ons give me negotiating leverage that others don’t have. What I mean is that I can easily walk to a different hotel or vendor if one offers me a bad rate. The hotel clerks and taxi drivers know this. People with many bags are nearly powerless, forced into staying put or facing backbreaking (or costly) work to move everything to another place.

-There is no need to max out the capacity of your bag. Whether you use a carry-on or have a big suitcase, pack as little as possible. Don’t fill up the luggage for the sake of filling the luggage…consider leftover space a bonus for all the interesting souvenirs you’ll acquire!

-Pack clothing that is versatile, multipurpose, and expected to be used often. For example, I do not travel with dress shoes or a suit because there are very rarely opportunities to wear such things. Mulipurpose clothing might be something like a jacket that is designed to be used as a raincoat, and can also be rolled up to form an improvised pillow for travel; shorts that double as swimming trunks; a bra-kini! (I just learned about these a couple weeks ago); flip flops for city walking, strolling the beach, or taking showers in hostels.

-Don’t pack too many clothes! I take a 5-day supply because I know I can have laundry done very inexpensively here in SE Asia whenever I want. So, my typical rotation of clothing includes 5 shirts, 5 pairs of socks, 5 pairs of underwear, and two pairs each of pants and shorts. If you over pack any clothing, make it underwear—you can never be too safe where these are concerned.

-Pack clothing that is easy maintenance. If at all possible, try to take clothes that can be washed together, with similar detergents, water temperatures, and drying instructions. I usually give a bag of clothing to the nearest launderer I find, provide no special instructions, pay about $1US per kilogram, and pick it up the next day. It wouldn’t be any easier if I were home.

-Pack clothing that is lightweight. If you plan to travel to hot locations, pack light, thin shorts and skirts. Leave the heavy duty pants at home. I converted from using calf-high socks to little ankle socks while traveling, simply to decrease my luggage weight and conserve space.

-Take one or two pairs of shoes, maximum! I think this is a rule often broken, especially by women! I’ve asked around recently, and was surprised to have one woman tell me if she could pack again, she would take one pair of flip flops and one pair of heels—her travel consisted of beachlife, shopping, and nightlife. Another would take one pair of flip flops and one pair of tennis shoes. It all depends on what kind of traveling you plan to do, but if it involves hiking and walking much, I think a good pair of shoes is essential.

-Leave your valuables at home! Jill and Stacey recently talked about a fellow they met that had his car broken into, and all his belongings stolen. He was devastated. Cut down on your packing weight, and eliminate your need for intense security. I recommend leaving all jewelry, and even expensive “toys” like iPods, smartphones, and laptops at home (unless you need them for work). Borrow a cheapie cellphone and use internet cafes to maintain communication, but consider that you are probably traveling to get away from the hustle bustle of daily life. Soak in the sights, sounds, and smells of your new surroundings rather than numbing yourself with your technological comforts.

-Get your toiletries from hotels. Unless you are very particular about using certain brands, those little bars of soap and tiny bottles of shampoo, provided by hotels, are perfect for traveling. They are small and “free” and easily replaceable. Men, generally, can survive with a small toiletries kit of toothbrush, paste, floss, soap, shampoo, and deodorant, along with any trimming supplies like razors, scissors, or tweezers. Women, generally, need more. Stacey, I’m sure you and Jill have some tips in this department.

-Some things to definitely leave at home: big, fluffy beach towels; multiple pairs of shoes; specialized clothing of any kind (suits, gowns) unless you are traveling for a special event; athletic equipment (Scuba gear, surfboard, frisbee, basketball, etc.), again, unless you are on a sport-specific holiday; accessories such as hats, belts, and anything else that takes up space and is unnecessary. Think you’ll miss these things? Then consider your holiday a chance to “re-invent” yourself by exploring a simpler, easier way of being.

-Take advantage of your holiday status. Remember, you are traveling! You will be moving around often and don’t need to impress anybody with your wardrobe of 100 pairs of high heels or 30 pairs of pants. Nobody expects a traveler to have an entire wardrobe on hand, so if you find yourself in a night club with tennis shoes, it’s okay, and will probably make for good conversation fodder.

Nobody ever returns from vacation and says “I wish I packed more!” You won’t regret the comfort of traveling light. Doing so will save time, energy, worry, and money, while also providing you more opportunities to enjoy your destinations and possibly even learn a bit more about yourself.

What travel packing tips do you have? Have you ever went way overboard or underboard with your luggage and regretted it? I’d love to hear your comments, even if you disagree with some of what I’ve written!

Jill and Stacey, thank you for letting me guest write and I hope we cross paths in Australia sometime!

Hey guys!

So Jill and I FINALLY made it up to Cairns for our Cairns Holidays! We were super pumped to go on an eco reef tour and cruise of the Great Barrier Reef. Unfortunately during our Cairns Holidays we were rained out. It rained for 3 days straight. Not only did it rain the ENTIRE time, there’d only be like an hour or two break in between showers so we couldn’t even get out and shoot anything.

We spent a majority of our time in the Bellview Hotel. The Bellview was a great budget stay, it’s part hostel, part hotel. The rooms you can definitely tell are aged, but they’re spacious and there’s air conditioning. It was bloody hot in Cairns too, so you’ll definitely appreciate the A/C!

They also have a commons area, with television, kitchen, public washrooms and an outdoor pool in the middle of the hotel. Jill and I hoped in once for 30 mins of sun before it clouded over and started raining again.

I was so excited for our Cairns Holidays, because I was dying to dive the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef was recently made popular destination again, with everyone flocking to find little Nemo like in the movie Finding Nemo. No Nemo for Prieur though. Sad day.

I did however meet some very interesting travelers also on their Cairns Holidays. One guy was 19 traveling from England. He’d bought an old car and traveled all over Australia and in each destination travelers would sign his car and leave messages. The tin beater was a driving reflection of Chris’s travels and memories! Sadly though in Darwin people broke into his car, stole his: camera, car, wallet and all valuables essentially leaving him with nothing but the change in his pocket. He told us it was the most devastating experience of his life and he’d been working on boats and in farms just to get enough money to stay in hostels. Without a passport or photo Id he was unable to access his bank account and lost his phone so he wasn’t able to call home for a bit. His last words to us were, “no matter what happens it can only get better right?”. Truly a unique survivors story!

We met another girl aged 21, also from the U.K., she had been traveling Australia for a few weeks having just come from an African safari. She was working at a Lion sanctuary, her job was to help nurse back injured and weak Lions in captivity and set them free. She said her scariest moment in the Mother Land was releasing an alpha male lion back into the wilderness. She said they set him free off the jeep, then the jeep had mechanical issues. She was stranded with 3 other co-workers, radioing for assistance to the rangers when the lion came back after them. The lion started circling them like a hunter stalking prey. The jeep had no hard top cover and was exposed to the Lion giving this hungry feline ample opportunity for a human snack. With no guns or tranquilizers on board the three clung to each other anxious to see if they’d be lion lunch or be saved in a pinch by the rangers. Luckily as the lion got closer the rangers showed up firing shots in the air scaring the ferocious beast back into his homeland.

Then there was Dave. If you check out our “Real Aussie Slang” you can meet Dave too! Dave was such a character and I thoroughly enjoyed “taking the piss” outta him for a few days on our Cairns Holidays. He was SO funny! Aussie to the core this guy wore only boardies, drank his MB, and recounted many stories of being on fishing boats. He showed us pics of fish that were over 5′5″, weighing anywhere from 80-120lbs. He told us a story of a shark being hooked on the line and when they brought it on board the shark was biting at their ankles crankily fighting to be let back in the ocean. Stories of a crazy french Canadian that got bit by a fish and had wounds so deep they had to sew them up on ship, using only sewing thread and a bottle of whiskey.

So while our time in Cairns was a wash, sometimes the you meet the best people on rainy days!

See Roo around, and stay tuned for our amazing GOLD COAST FEATURE!

What do I write about Love when Loves done nothing for me? We haven’t been getting along for years, and I was supposed to write something for Valentines Day but for the life of me, I’ve been stumped.

I’m almost 30 years old, and much like Drew Barrymore in “Never Been Kissed” I’ve “Never been in Love”. Not with anyone who’s loved me back in the same way at least.

So I decided to write a blog on the “L” word after many a disappointing Valentines Day, because for many singles V-day is like dooms day. This year was different, I was a watcher, a partaker, not the girl with a little ache of loneliness, a twinge of unsettlement, judging eyes and a lingering wondering if that deep dark ugly emptiness will one day go away. I tried my best to spread love, and listen to what people had to say about it.

So do fairy tales really exist? Or are they just for everyone else? Does love skip generations? Is it possible to be a love-tard? Jerry McGuire was looking for someone who completed him, but I feel complete. What if I just want someone who compliments me? Like Peanut butter to Jelly? Or like beer and pizza? Mac and Cheese! (I’m hungry typing right now…)

People (mainly older relatives and marrieds) constantly question why I’m single?

“Why are you single, you’re such a beauty and you have so many talents?” Me- guys hate it, they get threatened/intimidated I’ve literally been told off on 4 different occasions.

“Someday you’ll make a fabulous wife and Mom, I can’t believe no one has scooped you up yet?” Me- yikes! Let me get a bf first!

“What’s wrong with you, you’re a smart girl, you should be engaged by now?” Me – how does intelligence relate to diamonds?

“How’s it that YOU are single?” Me – what’s with the emphasis on “YOU”, what does that mean?

My default answer was to say “I dunno, maybe I’m just not lovable.” Or I have GDD – “Guy Deficiency Disease”. But I think this year I have a far better answer… maybe it’s just because… wait for it… “I know my own worth”. I’m tired of that sinking disappointment feeling. I want the “Wow”. I deserve the “Wow”. I’ll wait for the “Wow”.

So like any challenge I decided to dive into the heart of Love. (no pun intended)
I went to the classics (or my version of them anyways):

When Harry met Sally, The Notebook, Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing ,The Holiday, Top Gun, Hitch, Casablanca, 50 First Dates,Titanic, Sleepless in Seattle …etc.

Meh, all fantastic stories, some really amazing tear jerkers but doesn’t seem realistic.

So I decided to listen to love songs and power ballads like:

All you need is love – Beatles, You and Me -Lifehouse, Beautiful Love – The Afters, Alone – Heart, Careless Whispers – George Michael, More than words – Extreme, Stay – Lisa Loeb, Lady in Red- Chris De Burgh, Wonderful Tonight – Eric Clapton, All by myself – The Celine, Lady- Kenny Rogers, Here I am – Air Supply, Faithfully- Journey, Wicked Games – Chris Isaak, No More Tears – Ozzy, Sweet Child O’ Mine – G n’ R… etc.

But the only ones I feel I truly identify with are: Can anyone find me somebody to love – Queen, Here I go again – Whitesnake, and I Wanna know where love is – Foreigner and very strangely if you find yourself on a long beach walk playing power ballads its amazing how the waves seem crash in time with the songs. Creepily odd.

I’d turn to the poets, the authors and the artists but I’m just not that tortured inside to inflict self torture; I know I’d never commit suicide like Juliet and Ophelia or chop off an ear like Picasso, or kill in the name of Love. Seems a bit dramatic. I mean maybe its a good thing Haagen Das exists. Jeez have some chocolate and grab a box of tissues it’ll pass…

I’ve asked my friends what they think it is? If there’s a problem – how do I fix it?

The only definitive answer they’ve come up with is:
1- maybe you’re just not ready yet?
2 – maybe you just meet the wrong guys.
3- your flirtarded.
4- maybe you need to wait longer to have _ _ _

1. My take on that: BULLSHIT – when it happens it happens, you don’t need to prep for it like an exam, or psyche yourself up for Love like a big game. If it’s right and it fits it’ll just work out. Yes, I’m not looking for it, but no I wouldn’t close my options either. Except for internet dating, I think that’s just not for me, not that there’s anything wrong with it. It just doesn’t feel right or natural to me.

2. Meeting the wrong guys is BULLSHIT too, because I meet all sorts of guys – everywhere. I’m pretty sure cupids not hanging around up there with his harp stamping in on the ground yelling “tho shalt not pass” to all the “right” sorts of guys. Am I guilty of bad boy syndrome, maybe on occasion. But I happen to love guitar players, and that doesn’t mean that every guitar player is a douchebag! What I am guilty of is not expressing my interest or intentions first, or sober. But seriously I am shy when it comes to making the first move, plus I’m from a small town I still have some of those small town values! Like if a guy is interested he comes to you. Am I clingy? I hope not. I do get excited when I meet a guy I actually want to spend time with, so yes I may contact them regularly. But I have a rule of 2 – if I’ve tried to get ahold of a guy 2 times either by email, text, or voice mail chances are he’s got the message and has just chosen not to return it. Which I also think is rude. But either way… either way…I tap out to avoid the stage 5 cling-on title.

3. I Am flirtarded. It’s an ongoing issue. I’m working on it.

4. I wait till I feel right about it. If I’m into a guy, then why not? That part of the relationship is just as important as the emotional part to me so I think the days of the “3 day” rule are over. I happen to know of 4 married couples who had sex on their first date! Ugh… what if I’m just bad in bed? More to ponder… if so, how do you fix that? I know I’m not a starfisher, and I don’t “think” my bed moves could be compared to Elaine’s dance moves from Seinfeld, but I’m not a porn star either, I’m ok with a happy medium, and I usually see ahem… “results”. Kinda hard to fake. So I dunno I haven’t asked for testimonials.

Regardless, after a guesstimated 12 years of “dating” here’s what I know:

I’ve dated the guy who I gave my all to, he was my best friend and shamefully I’d say my everything. I was close to his family and his friends but never as close to him as I ever really wanted. Turned out in the end he said he loved me but was never “in love” with me “that way”. I would bend over backwards to show him how much I cared, and I either got nothing in return or a mediocre half assed attempt with the precursor always being “but I’m a guy I don’t do mushy stuff” or “that’s gay” or “nothing I do is going to be good enough”. Riiiiiight! Thanks. What he was really saying was: I’m not that into you to be that creative or care that much, but you’re ok, so I’ll keep you for now until I find my version of better. In the end I drowned in I.O.U’s and empty promises and lies to make me feel better. I don’t think he’s a bad guy I just think he needed to be honest and we wouldn’t have waisted so much of each others time. – Guys, sometimes being nice is worse.

I dated the sweet on the outside messed on the inside guy for off and on for over half a year before I realized his addictions and dependancy were making me less of me, and more of a mom/caregiver to him. – No thank-you!

I dated the physical/mentally abusive guy 2 and a 1/2 weeks of bliss to be ruined by 1 night of a punch and hit and miss. Never. Again. Ladies if a guy ever says “you’re too fat, you’re too ugly, he’s the best thing you’ll ever have…” run. Or my personal favorite was “I don’t mean it, I’m just saying that to knock you down a few pegs so you won’t be so high and mighty and maybe learn how to depend on me”. – RUN.

I’ve dated the “baby you’re so amazing, you’re so sweet, you’re the perfect girl” blah blah blah guy, only to find out he’s sleeping with 3 other chicks, and in one instance had a girlfriend! Must be using The Game, or the law of odds. – Bubbbbye!

Then there’s a few who were just what they are. I appreciate that. Just be honest. No harm no foul. Which means: No cuddling. No sleepovers. Thanks call ya- never. -Just be upfront.

So after 3 days of Love research my conclusion is still the same:

- I’ll never settle for ordinary or mediocre, because I’m not an ordinary or mediocre person.
- Someday someone will love me for the good, the bad, and the down-right ugly.
- Doesn’t matter where, when or how if its meant to be – it’ll just work out
- Passion can and will give you purpose
- I do want a spontaneous romantic cheese ball like myself who appreciates all things 80’s.
- I’ll wait for my “Wow” even if it takes five lifetimes.
- If you’re asked what’s wrong with you because you’re single, its nothing, being single is not a disease.
- A break is a “break-up” for a reason, move on. It’ll never work out, it’s just comfortable.
- It IS better to love and lose, then to be comfortably numb.
- Love attracts love. Be open to it, eventually it will come.
- If a guys into you – not even living in China will keep him away (proud of J&J) some vacationships work.
- Know that you’re worth something great, if you believe it, someone else will too.
- Unconditional Love is the one you want.

Carrie Bradshaw got her “Big” love in the end…
So to encourage positivity I wear a big rose quartz crystal,
I tell people its a big rock for big love – one day!

Hope roo’s be livin easy and love hard! Don’t stop believing!

SP

P.S. – I’ll have to admit I “Loved” being in another country on Valentines! (Had to make this somehow travel related).
