Waiting again- Australia Facts

After a month long road trip and 3 weeks in Sydney, Jill and I had almost blown our budget. We came here with at least $7000 ea. and let me tell ya, it quickly diminishes, it is pricey here and that is an Australia Fact!

Since Jill & I are seasoned bar veterans we decided to pack up and move to Surfers Paradise for a couple of months and see if we could find jobs in the hospitality field. Jill looked on http://sydney.gumtree.com.au/ to see if there was anything posted.

Side note: Gumtree is the Australian equivalent to Craigslist if anyone is wondering. We’ve used this site for finding jobs and for finding short term accommodations!

We couldn’t really find anything so we went into Surfers to the Chevron Renaissance centre and applied at a few different places there. Most places said they weren’t hiring because of Schoolies week.

So we headed out to Broad beach and Main beach to try our luck there. Broad beach and Main beach are on either side of Surfers Paradise, both are a tad more upscale and tend to cater to resident Aussies rather then tourists. So some people might find that a bit more their style.

To serve in Australia you have to get what is known as an RSA – Responsible Serving Alcohol certificate. RSA it costs $75 AUD, and takes 4hrs. BUT! If you copy and paste the answers in the “Take Notes” section, it’ll take you about 2-3hrs. Also, make sure you pick the “download” option so you can just print out your certificate and copy your RSA number on a seperate piece of paper if they ask you for it.

So after a hot afternoon of passing out resumes Jill and I were both lucky enough to get a trial at a place called Sassi, and through the kindness of strangers I also got a trial at a place called ALTO in Broadbeach. So who knows by the end of this weekend we could both be “Sassi” girls, or I could be singing the tune of “ALTO”. Either way, fingers crossed!

So there’s your Australia Facts for today!

See Roo in a bit!
