Wanderlust: (n) is a strong desire for or impulse to wander,[1] or, in modern usage, to travel and to explore the world.[2]
“No, sorry Jill, I think I just need some time to myself… just time to wander alone for a bit..” – me 2 months ago
It’s funny because most people know me as a spastastic, outgoing, fun kinda chick! Yes, I do love being the center of attention, yes I do things that are completely unconventional, and yes I say things that can be described at best as charmingly inappropriate…
BUT…
I have always been sort of introverted as well. The people who know me best know me as an extrovert, but when I meet new people I usually gauge them first before I let them in. When I was in high school I was way shyer then I am now. I only exposed my true personality to those I felt were friends. My introvert side loved books on ancient civilizations, art history, shakespeare, I used to paint wall murals, sculpt, and listen to music every second I could. But my favorite introvert thing to do, was to wander.
I loved wandering alone in the country down back roads, taking a sketch pad and finding the beauty in nature. I loved wandering the cities alone, just walking down random streets finding cool shops and cafe’s hidden in alleys. When I got my license I would drive as far as I felt safe going and would explore different towns too. Or I’d drive down to this private beach in Amherstburg, Ontario where my grandma lives, its secluded and peaceful, and great place to just “be”.
Sometimes I just love being alone.
Sometimes wandering alone is easiest. Its a great feeling to be back in your own head, instead of catering to others all the time. I love wandering the beaches of the Gold Coast alone, I come up with some of the best ideas, and reconnect with my own spirit I guess you could say. Sometimes its great to think of everything the world has to offer and the sights that you could be seeing. When you wander alone you get a sense of being, almost like you’re in conversation with the Universe and you can tell it all the things your grateful for and all the things you still want to achieve!
I had one such conversation with the Universe a year ago, and then wandered all the way to Australia with my best friend! I got to admit, I love traveling now! I love the people I’ve met, I love hearing their amazing stories, I love the culture shock, and I love the fact that I don’t have to go home after a week of awesomeness in another country!
I was surfing the net the other day looking at travel blogs and stumbled upon one called
The Big Fat World she had a great piece on
Travel to Vietnam and I wish I was so ballsy to go there. Her site is based on 200 different countries she’d like to travel, and she’s already been to 25! How cool is that! Now that’s some wanderlust at its best for ya!
I know everyone gets caught up in life, the daily tasks and chores and everything has gotta be done yesterday, and sometimes it feels like your best is never good enough… like everyone wants a piece of something but you have no more left to offer.
If you get stuck in that rut, try to go on a wander… you literally never know where it’ll take ya.
Love from your friendly wanderoo…

When I first got my license I’d driven as far as Byron Bay just to see what’s there and getting lost in the Hinterlands too. As i’m getting older I’m more career focused instead of the freedom boy i used to be…….just like what your saying that “caught up in life”.
It’s great that you two can be travelling and working at the same time and still have time to enjoy Australia.
although we wish we didn’t have to work!!! lol
