Before we moved to Australia Jill and I were diligent about our weight loss vacation extravaganza!
Especially with so many hot Aussie’s to hob-knob with we weren’t about to let ourselves look anything less then our best selves!
So we svelted up by October, eating chicken & broccoli, slimfast for breaky, and a healthy salad for lunch. We worked out 4-5 times a week, incorporating weight training with running/walking on the boardwalk for 3-6k. It took us about 5 months to shed 35 lbs between the two of us.
We thought we we ready for our Australia experience!
When we arrived in Australia we found that the food was quite different. Some of it we’d never even heard of! There were no preservatives to keep us full, and everything lacked the taste of salt? What’s that about? We pretty much lived off of eggs and muesli with yogurt for the first little bit because we weren’t sure of the patties, the cheese, the kangaroo steaks! Oh and NO SLIM FAST!
What really did us in was eating at gas stations for the first month of our road trip! Nothing says good morning like a gas station muffin, and some crappy coffee you might mistake for motor oil. If you look at our beginning episodes you can definitely tell the difference towards the end! In a country that has one of the highest populations hot bodies, only rivaled by Brazil we hated ourselves and what had happened by the end of the trip, was this turning into a weight loss vacation?
We’ve been living in the Gold Coast since December, and that was hard too, because everything is soooo
GC as they say! The girls here have legs to die for, and wear the shortest skirts that might even be scandalous given the right ocean breeze… OH I even got called fat randomly by guys driving by in cars, or people passing by, and some construction workers… my fav was….”oi, oi! Look she’s big ass mate! It was either big ass, or big as… it got lost in translation on me, but either way… not good… so that happened for at least once a week for the first 3 weeks that I lived here!
Yes, as tourists its VERY common for people to gain weight! Your body has to adjust to a new climate, a new way of life and new foods! Plus, when you feel like your on holiday you don’t really feel like hitting the gym or eating healthy. In our case driving 9hrs in a van 3-4 out of 7 days didn’t help our cause.
Once we settled into our place I personally started waking up and having 2 hr walks on the beach (the sand provides a natural resistance) and doing what we like to call “prison workouts” since we didn’t have weights or a gym to go to. I religiously started drinking 2 liters of water with fresh squeezed lemon, ate tons of tuna, salads, muesli, and chicken as well as a plethora of veggies and fruits!
Finally now after 2 months my vacation weight is OVER! I’ve taken off my “road weight” and feel back to normal. I even looked up to see if there were weight loss vacations – sort of like fat camps for older people, desperate times, desperate tape measures… haha
But the funny thing is, now I look back and think, weight is such a funny thing. It’s almost like having a house full of clutter. People just judge you. Why is that? Why is it that in society everyone is so conscience of looks, does it ever end… do 80 yr olds judge each other on looks… or can it finally just be personality! I know so many unhealthy skinny people, and so many people that are obsessed with muscle definition and working out, and so many people that are on drugs to stay skinny, how is THAT any better then a little chub? A lil’ squishy jeeeelllyyy….
Anywho, that’s my skinny on the fat, and it seems as though no matter where you live, thunder thighs are thunder thighs, muffin top still isn’t sexy and if you have more rolls then a bakers daughter a majority of the people don’t really find that scrumptious either!
But my question to you is…. wait for it….. why are only over-weight seniors on nudist beaches?
Weeeeiiirrrddd….
I guess either way its better to be on the beach rather then shut in feeling like
a beached whale!
See Roo arrrrrouuunnndddd…

Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I’d never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away
Chorus:
Tropical the island breeze
All of nature wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
Bottom line: Don’t go for second best -baby you’ll do much better on your own!
don’t take crap from crap throwers.
The question of overweight seniors on nude beaches sure made me giggle. For an answer to that question, I guess they just don’t care anymore. They are who they are, been there done that , they’re over it, now it’s just time to live it up and stop worrying about what other people think. They just concentrate on having fun etc.
That’s not to say that younger folks aren’t like that too – some are, some aren’t. I am overweight, I think I’m okay with it until it’s pointed out – just like I read in your blog about the construction workers. That’s just rude.
Just like the person said above though, ‘don’t take crap from crap throwers’… I thought i had a point when writing this blog but I’ve lost it completely. I enjoyed reading your blog today though and congrats on losing the vacation/roadtrip weight. Continue having a blast!!! Love watching your vids girls!
Take care
Another awesome blog!!!!!!
by the way, when you were listing the foods you forgot to mention the biggest food group in this household…..vodka and gin LOL jk!
Love the blog and love you. Very inspiring. Just keep being your scrumptiously hot self.

Love this entry and hate those big as/big ass weenies. You look great xoxox
I feel sorry for you about some of your experiences on GC. Having said that they are just construction workers…..so what do u expect??
I’ve lived here for 14yrs and these days I hardly go to Surfers. If i got to beach for a walk i go to the one further from it as there’s a lot less people there.
If you go to other suburbs on GC you’re unlikely to get those negative experience as people are more like real people here. You don’t see a lot of families(locals, not tourists) in Surfers, do u?? Surfers is for the hipees, drunkies and party goers etc(oh…and schoolies!!)
People judge others because of ego, period. Also, they don’t love themselves cause if they do they won’t need to be so judgmental.

yeah we aren’t that big of surfers fans or anything….we love Broadbeach the most! We both work in Broadbeach and love that it is more locals and less touristy….and such yummy restaurants!! i also love Burleigh (thanks to tallebudgera creek and the burleigh rock pools lol) and Main Beach….we are definitely lovin Gold Coast life…..and even more excited to start shooting our new Gold Coast series….we start shooting Feb. 9th!
Broadbeach is much nicer given less tourists and less drunkies there!! And the only Starbucks that survived….just outside Oasis.
What are the locations for the GC series? U’d better put Rainbow Bay and the Hinterlands on the calendar lo…..maybe do one in Nimbin about scoring the best buds….no, i mean herbs!!
The Hinterland is definitely on the list….Mt Tambourine here we come! lol Rainbow Bay is not on the list so far but I am sure we will definitely get it shot before we leave the GC
and we can’t reveal ALLLLL the tours we are doing but I will tell you that we get to ride in the Tiger Moth Joy flight planes, go sailing, and drive race cars!! how sick is that!??! we can’t wait! we start flming in a week!!
